Ballymackeogh Salers

About Ballymackeogh Saler Herd

The Ballymackeogh Saler Herd situated in Kilnaboy in the heart of the Burren area was established in 2000 . We were first introduced to Salers by David Clarke at the Tullamore Show in 1999. As a part time farmer ease of calving was of particular importance. We were so impressed by the merits of Saler cattle that we went onto import eight incalf heifers and a bull during the following twelve months. Understanding the importance of developing the Ballymackeogh Herd we began to exhibit at shows from the outset. In 2001 we imported a heifer from France with the show circuit especially in mind.

We are extremely pleased with the breeding structure we have put in place from the start and we have reaped the rewards on the ground at shows and sales. At the 2005 March Tully Sale Ballymackeogh Eddie sold for €3700 the top price on the day to Jimmy Ryan of the Glengar Herd. The following year our weanling heifers fetched up to €2750 in Mountrath.
