Millbrook
Limousins Herd
Over the last 22 years the Millbrook herd has accumulated
many awards. One of their biggest achievements to date
has been winning the the All Ireland Heifer Derby for
three years in succession. The fact that this title has
been won with three different heifers, bred from three
different dams, is an indictment of the breeding policy
in place. This year Millbrook Celine took the top prize
in Clogher.
Millbrook Ulla, former Limousin Overall Champion 2009
is a daughter of former stock bull, Poker, and is out
of Millbrook Petal, Senior Heifer Champion and Overall
Reserve Female Champion at Tullamore in 2006, and the
Reserve Overall Champion at Beef Expo 2008. Ulla’s
daughter Millbrook Celine is this year’s All Ireland
Derby Heifer, Junior Female Champion 2009 and Overall
Reserve Champion at the Limousin National Show 2009.

About Millbrook Limousins
Pedigree breeding in the Smith family extends back as far
as 1949 with John producing champions for decades in the 50’s
60’s and 70’s. In 1986 Millbrook Limousins were
established with the purchase of four females from the Curraghgrange
Herd of Joseph Mcgrath in Co Kildare. From the beginning docility
was a top priority in our breeding policy culling any animal
that had a temperament problem. It is for that reason that
any visitors to Millbrook Herd comment on how quiet the cattle
are in the herd. Over the last 22 years the herd has established
itself as one of the leading herds in Ireland and the UK.
William is currently President of the Irish Limousin Cattle
Society.
The success of any herd is not down to the animals purchased,
but those carrying the name of the Herd. At Millbrook we breed
cattle that always find favour with the commercial and pedigree
breeder. We strive to breed cattle with correct feet, good
growth rate, good docility, good muscle and ease of calving.
AI and Embryos
In the Millbrook we use 100% Ai. We feel to maintain the highest
quality herd you have to use the best bulls available. Each
year we flush our top cows this ensures that we are always
using the best breeding lines available to us.
