Monamore Holstein Friesians

Monamore Holstein Friesians herd was established in 1979 with 40 cows. Over the years the emphasis has been on breeding trouble-free, right-type, high production, high protein cows, running together as one herd and careful mating selections providing superior breeding stock for sale to other farmers.

About Tom Kelly

In 1979 I had the opportunity to set up my own herd separate from my father with whom I had worked until then. Initially I began milking 40 cows and heifers whom were purchased from my father's Moneymore herd. This base was added to from other breeders as conditions permitted. By the time quotas came in 1983 we were lucky to have grown to 110 milking cows .While these base animals were no oil paintings in their own right a number did come from well proven female lines. It is remarkable how these families have again come to the fore in the Monamore herd. Our most notable cows are now the Torch, Fedora, Iris and Rosemarie which trace to the heart of the Moneymore herd. Families introduced into the herd over the years have measured up extremely well including; Lulu, Miss America, Darlene, Evon, Goldangel, and most recently Raven and Elly Mae (origin of new top proven bull Chicago).
