Ross Belgian Blues was established in 1994. The first Pedigree female that was brought into the herd was Little silver Janett, she had an overall Linear Score of 90.3. Little Silver Janett was crossed with Hazelwood Freshman to produce Ross Michelle who formed the genetic foundation for alot of the Ross Herd today. The main characteristics of the Ross Herd is to produce muscle and length along with excellent legs and feet. The most Celebrated Bull produced on the farm to date is (Rosario) Ross Alo who is a direct descendent of this line.
The sires used on the Ross Herd are selected on certain criteria and a sire must always have longevity. In order to inject different blood lines into the ever expanding herd we purchased a number of embryos from the Van Wolvendreef herd in Belgium. This venture proved to very worthwhile as we have a full sister of Ovatie van Wolvendreef born on the farm Ross Vickie. This cow has excellent pedigree, sired by Galopeur and her DAM is a daughter of Hebreu. These two sires have gone on to prove to be giants of the Belgian Blue genetics.
Ross Vivienne was born from the same set of embryos, today she has proved to be one of the most successful show cows in the Ireland, sired by Cubitus Du Pre Rosine, DAM of Orka de van Wolvendreef who's sired by Frerrot De Belle Eau, two more of the foundation bulls of the Belgian Blue breed. Ross Beaver son of Ross Vivienne is the 2008 All Ireland Belgian Blue Calf Champion and Reserve Male Champion at the Beef Expo 08.
